Oldsmobile 442
1968 Oldsmobile 442
After 4 years of being an option package, the 442 became a separate model in 1968. Initially, the 442 moniker stood for 4 barrel carburetor, 4-speed manual transmission and dual exhaust. Others believe the \\\\\"2\\\\\" was for posi-traction. Originally the base 442 came with a 400ci V-8 and utilized the 455ci motor using a smaller bore. The W-30 and Hurst models had the 455.
Steel Affairs car is a 2-door Holiday coupe and has been upgraded to a 455ci motor with an automatic transmission with a floor shift and console. It has a wood steering wheel, add-on tach, power brakes, AM radio, rally wheels and a gauge cluster with Amps/Oil Pressure/Water Temp. The car runs strong and sounds good however; there is a lifter tick in the motor.
The interior is nice with bucket seats to go along with the console. Upholstery is good except for a small tear on the passenger seat and a crack on the console lid and dash. The paint on the exterior is driver quality and looks good. The rally wheels look like they have just been repainted and the wheel trim looks good.
Overall this is a nice collector muscle car for not a lot of money. It does need some minor work but hey, that\\\\\'s part of the reason we buy these old cars anyway. Steel Affairs is a Colorado licensed used car dealer specializing in classic, collectible and special interest vehicles of all types. Dealer stock # 1588.
