1968 Oldsmobile 442 (Canadian)
Showcase your Oldsmobile
Hi all,
Here are some pictures of my 1968 Oldsmobile 442 built at the Oshawa plant. I have always liked the style of the 1968 Cutlasses and 442s and am really proud to say I own a legitimate one. The original 400 engine was factory replaced in 1971. However, the replacement 400 was unstamped and also blew up. It now has a nice 455.

Do you happen to know if there is a kit for the stripe by chance?
not that I know of because people on co use to ask. But on my ram rod it was about 1 inch from peak moldings then to where it wrapped around.

Was it actual paint (like pin stripe) or was it more like a sticker? I don't think I've ever seen a 442 with the GT stripe in person.
On the original paint,Saffron, cutlass S convertible I parted out it waspainted
Geez, so is it just measured out, taped, and then done by hand? Sounds really easy to mess up.
Wow just figured it out converts were painted , hardtops had a decal. My convert when I first bought had the ghost stripes on the hood and painted red stripe. Now keep in mind this was my first 68 and was always a 69 guy so I assumed those were done after purchase. So Einstein here painted to what I conceived as how it came from factory. Hard tops are def decals my ram rod a small section on driver side fender came off.

Thats really interesting. I remember a thread on CO about this and it seemed like there were really a lot of discrepencies. Was the width of the strip 3/16", 1/4", or 11/32"? Can you still buy the correct color (Provincial White) decal out there even? On your ram rod, do you happen to see it wrap around the top window as well like below?
It definitely wrapped around the window on the hardtops. Somewhere I have a pic of a piece of the stripe on that convertible and it was definitely painted
no mine stopped by rear 1/4 molding believe width was 1/4. Body shops are doing it whether it will be exact shade of 68 white is another story
The best place to find the answer to exactly where it goes is that thread on ClassicOlds. I never thought it wrapped around the window and up the roof until I saw the original pics that were posted
just checked my old pics of ram rod yes went all the way around my error
Was the stripe available on a vinyl top car but ending at the belt line?

thats a good question dont know if a ever seen a gt stripe on a vinyl top car
I just realized all the pictures I posted were when I had the wire hub caps. I've always loved the look of the poverty caps so I did a quick switch. I figured I would post a picture.
